About the Project

Radiant Heatshielding panels were installed on the flare deck to provide protection against elevated temperatures to the Flare Deck and boom steelwork whilst also providing protection from the effects of radiant heat for the personnel and equipment below. The heatshield panels incorporate flooring gratings with an anti-slip serrated surface to allow for safe working at height.

Multiple removable panels were incorporated to allow for potential future flare tip change out, removing the need for the expensive replacement of the entire Flare Deck Heatshields.

Designed to strict Australian regulations, the Heatshields also had to be shaped around multiple flare tip penetrations.

About the Project

The UK North Sea Forties field underwent a major refurbishment in 2007. The offshore flare platforms required replacing as they had been in situ since installation of the platforms in 1976.

Locker Heatshielding were contracted by Amec to provide replacement Heatshield panels for the Forties Alpha flare platform to protect the Flare deck structure from elevated temperatures.

Due to the relatively complex shape of the replacement flare platforms, the Heatshield panels had to be individually designed with a number of complex shapes incorporated. The flare deck shields also had to fit closely around the new flare tip pipes to prevent any ingress of radiant heat through the flare deck.

The replacement flare platform was built on the quayside in Aberdeen and the shields fitted before the entire structure was transported offsite.

The existing flare platform was then removed, and the new platform lifted into place as a complete unit, significantly reducing the installation downtime.

About the Project

Total E & P Nigeria contacted Locker in August 2008 regarding a problem with the AMT2 flare deck.

The Original Flare Deck had no Heatshield protection and the supporting steelwork was damaged by the elevated temperatures present. Numerous interim modifications were employed in an attempt to strengthen the structure but Locker Flare Deck protection was agreed as the best solution.

The replacement flare deck provided unique challenges in that the panels had to be shaped around the existing structure, and modifications undertaken over the years meant incorporation of a number of complex shapes.

These panels were designed, fabricated and delivered to a tight budget and delivery schedule, and subsequently installed within the specified period. Successful fulfilment of complex requirements strengthened our relationship with Total E&P in the West African region and further demonstrated our ability to meet any challenge asked of us.

About the Project

The ULA oil field in the southern Norwegian section of the North Sea is located in about 70 metres of water.

The field consists of three conventional steel facilities.

The BP ULA platform underwent a major mid-life expansion project and as part of this the complete flare tower and platform was replaced.

The Flare Platform and upper section of the flare tower was manufactured in Incoloy 800HT which broke new ground for Locker Heatshielding in the supply of replacement flare deck panels.

About the Project

Prelude is the world’s first ever floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project. Locker shields with a combined area of over 2,000m2 have been delivered to SHI (Samsung Heavy Industries) and SBM (Single Bouy Moorings).

The Prelude, constructed at the Samsung Heavy Industry yard in South Korea and engineered by Technip, will be delivered to Shell by the end of 2016.

Locker Heatshielding has designed and supplied a range of different shields for the world famous Prelude.

Installed Locker flare deck shields can be seen approximately 1 minute into the Shell video below:
